Benedikt Vels (1984) je rođen u Minhenu a odrastao je u Švajcarskoj. Kada je završio gimnaziju 2003. godine preselio se u Berlin sa odlukom da se ne upisuje na univerzitet već da se posveti pisanju. Zarađivao je za život radeći kao urednik TV programa na jednoj televiziji. Njegov debitantski roman Bekovo poslednje leto iz 2008, stekao je odličan prijem i kod čitalaca i kod kritičara, nakon čega je i nagrađen bavarskom književnom nagradom Kunstfurder i preveden na osam jezika. Napisao je još tri knjige koje su takođe imale veliki uspeh. Godine 2016. dobio je Evropsku nagradu za književnost
